    The Jacksonville Journey:

    A Comprehensive Community-Wide Anti-Crime Initiative

    The Jacksonville Journey is working to create a roadmap for achieving peace and prosperity in every home, on every street, for every citizen.

    Keeping Kids Safe and Productive

       • Early Literacy Program

    The program goal is to transition 35 custodial child care facilities in Zone 1 (Zip codes 32202, 32204, 32206, 32208, 32209, 32254) into early learning centers. Quality Support teams provide a comprehensive and multidisciplinary program that impacts the educational development and mental/social health of children located in the centers. Coaching and technical assistance are provided to directors and staff, children are screened and assessed, educational scholarships are provided to participating child care teachers, parent involvement is encouraged through a parenting component, mental health services are provided to those children with identified needs, and environmental support is provided to improve the overall quality of the program delivery in the centers.

    Child Guidance Center provides mental health consultation within the centers and individualized therapy for those children identified with significant needs that cannot be met in the classroom environment.

    Program Objectives:

    1. To provide consultation regarding social/emotional health and development to teachers, directors, and program staff;

    2. To provide assessment of children referred for therapeutic services, including completion of the Children’s Functional Assessment Rating Scale (CFARS);

    3. To provide individual and/or family therapy based on the assessment;

    4. To provide parent and staff training in cooperation with other partners.

    Target Population:

    Children 0-5 enrolled in identified child care centers in Health Zone 1.
